M. Elizabeth Magill nominated to become President of the University of Pennsylvania
Magill, who currently serves as Executive Vice President and Provost of the University of Virginia, will assume the Penn Presidency on July 1, 2022. She succeeds Dr. Amy Gutmann.
Penn receives pivotal gift to expand support for first-generation to college and modest-income undergraduates
The gift, from Scott and Elena Shleifer, will increase its support and critical resources for students who are in the first generation of their family to attend college and/or from households of modest or limited income.
University professorships for Konrad Kording, George Demiris
Kording, a data scientist who studies the brain, will become the Nathan Francis Mossell University Professor. Demiris, a gerontologist who studies IT to support older adults, will become the Mary Alice Bennett University Professor.
Penn launches $750M investment in science, engineering, and medicine
The investment will cover research in novel therapeutics and health-related initiatives, energy and sustainability, data engineering and science, and infrastructure to support physical science research over the next five years.
Penn announces in-person Commencement ceremonies for those curtailed by COVID-19
The Class of 2020 Commencement Ceremony was moved to an online only event in May 2020. Now members of the Class of 2020, as well as graduate members of the Class of 2021, will get an in-person celebration.
