Penn’s Field Center to Hear Bill Cosby as Keynote Speaker at “One Child, Many Hands” Conference

PHILADELPHIA — The Field Center for Children’s Policy, Practice & Research at the University of Pennsylvania announced today that Bill Cosby will serve as the opening keynote speaker for its fourth biennial conference, “One Child, Many Hands: A Multidisciplinary Conference on Child Welfare,” June 8 at 9 a.m. at Penn’s Wharton School.

Penn Nursing Signs Memorandum of Understanding With Peking University’s Nursing School

PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and the School of Nursing at Peking University in Beijing have established a memorandum of understanding creating a formal research relationship between the schools. Peking University’s School of Nursing, with Guifang Guo as dean, is widely considered the premier nursing school in China.

Penn Nursing also has academic partnerships in Botswana and India.

Five University of Pennsylvania Professors Elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences

PHILADELPHIA –- Five University of Pennsylvania faculty members have been named Fellows of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.  They are among 212 new Fellows and 16 Foreign Honorary Members recognized as some of the world’s most accomplished leaders from academia, business,
public affairs, the humanities and the arts.

Carolyn Marvin's Book Earns Fellows Book Award from International Communication Association

Carolyn Marvin, Ph.D., the Frances Yates Professor of Communication, has won the Fellows Book Award from the International Communication Association for her work, When old technologies were new: Thinking about communication in the late nineteenth century (Oxford).

Penn’s Gregory S. Rost Appointed to the Pennsylvania Intergovernmental Cooperation Authority

PHILADELPHIA – Gregory S. Rost, vice president and chief of staff to University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann, has been appointed to the five-member board of the Pennsylvania Intergovernmental Cooperation Authority, PICA, according to an announcement today by Pennsylvania House Democratic Leader Frank Dermody.

Janine Remillard of Penn GSE Named Vice Chair of National Commission for Mathematics Instruction

PHILADELPHIA – Janine Remillard, a professor in the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania, has been named vice chair of the U.S. National Commission for Mathematics Instruction for a two-year term.  She has served on the commission since 2009.
