WURD-AM Broadcasts Live From Franklin Field

WHAT:

To celebrate “Penn Athletics Community Day” WURD AM radio, Philadelphia’s African American Talk Radio station (96.1 FM, 900 AM), will broadcast live from Franklin Field.

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

WURD Host Chris Murray will interview a variety of Penn representatives to promote the home opener Penn Quakers Football game and discuss Penn: education, entrepreneurship and the socio-economic quality of life in Philadelphia.

Guests include:

  • Penn senior Anea Moore, a local first-generation student, on her path to Penn as a Mayor's Scholar;
  • Penn Museum's Ellen Owen, Merle-Smith Director of Learning Programs,​​​​​​​ on “Unpacking the Past” connecting Philadelphia’s 7th graders studying ancient Egypt & Rome with the Penn Museum resources during free field trips for teachers, students and families as well as other free programs offered on Penn's campus;
  • Learn about the entrepreneurial success of Rebel Ventures a local youth-driven operation anchored by professional staff and mentors. High-school, college and graduate students learn by doing – honing their entrepreneurial skills together. This diverse collaboration creates a potent environment for teaching and learning. Their staffing model of six high-school students, one part-time staff person backed by volunteer mentors fosters peer accountability. Hear from the Netter Center for Community Partnerships' Jarrett Stein, Tre'Cia Gibson, a Rebel high school student, and Ashleigh Alexander, Rebel Penn mentor and MSW student.
