Classes and normal University operations to resume Wednesday

With Hurricane Sandy now having moved through the area, classes and all other University operations will resume a normal schedule on Wednesday, October 31st. 

Any employees who are unable to arrive for work because of the after effects of the storm should contact their supervisors. 

The University's Crisis Management Team, which has met regularly over the past five days to prepare and respond to storm related issues, expresses its thanks to all on campus who helped to feed and protect students, care for patients, and maintain essential operations through this challenging time. Thanks also go to students, who approached the storm in a safe and responsible way.  

Any additional updates regarding services on campus will be posted on the Public Safety website:www.publicsafety.upenn.edu.

Update on Hurricane Sandy

CLASSES CANCELLED FOR MONDAY AND TUESDAY

Due to severe weather that is predicted to accompany the arrival of Hurricane Sandy, all classes at the University of Pennsylvania are cancelled for Monday, October 29 and Tuesday, October 30. Classes will resume with a normal schedule on Wednesday, October 31.

Only those personnel providing essential services should report to work on Monday and Tuesday.  University employees who work in the Health System should contact their supervisors for instructions.  An explanation for faculty and staff on the University’s policies regarding closures can be found at the following URL:

Penn’s Crisis Management Team continues to monitor the situation, and extensive preparations have been taken to ensure the safety of students and others who will be on campus during the storm.

Updates concerning the storm will be posted on the Penn homepage (www.upenn.edu) and the Public Safety web site (http://www.publicsafety.upenn.edu/).  Faculty, staff and students can also call 215-898-MELT (215-898-6358) to hear a recorded message with any updates regarding the hurricane.

This is a major storm that will bring high winds and significant rain to the area. Localized flooding and some power outages are expected during the storm. The latest reports from the National Weather Service predict that Hurricane Sandy will move through the Philadelphia region very early Tuesday morning.  The storm could produce localized flooding and the possibility of some power outages.  Penn’s Crisis Management Team is closely monitoring the situation, and extensive preparations are being undertaken to ensure the safety of the campus community.

Any changes to normal operations on campus that might result from the storm will be reported on the University’s home page (www.upenn.edu) and the public safety web site (http://www.publicsafety.upenn.edu/).  Faculty, staff and students can also call 215-898-MELT (215-898-6358) to hear a recorded message about any changes to work schedules or class closures.
