University of Pennsylvania ArtsEdge Residency Project Accepting Applications for 2009-10 Academic Year

PHILADELPHIA –- Applications are now being accepted by the University of Pennsylvania ArtsEdge Residency Project, which boosts the career of an emerging visual artist and a rising writer by supporting their artistic collaboration in a shared live/work space near campus while strengthening their ties with Penn’s writing and artistic communities.

The ArtsEdge Residency is a project of Penn’s Kelly Writers House, School of Design’s Fine Arts Department and Facilities and Real Estate Services Division.

Each resident has a subsidized one-bedroom apartment and private studio space in West Philadelphia near campus. They are responsible for $400 of their monthly apartment rent with ArtsEdge subsidizing the rest. Wireless Internet and all utilities except phone are included.

During the course of their residencies, the writer and artist are encouraged to develop at least one collaborative project with Writers House or the Fine Arts Department. Qualified applicants may have the chance to teach one course at Penn in the spring semester.

Additional information about the Penn ArtsEdge Residency Project is available at writing.upenn.edu/wh/involved/awards/artsedge/

The application deadline is April 15. The one-year residency begins Sept. 1.
