Scholars Convene to Bridge Academics and Community Service

A highlight of the Center for Community Partnerships 10th Anniversary International Conference is a panel on higher education-community-school collaboration in South Africa, Australia, Korea and Europe. Site visits to Penn's school and community partners will also be offered.

The keynote speakers will be Harris Wofford, CEO of America's Promise and former CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, and Penn President Judith Rodin.

Some of the sessions include "The Role of University Presidents in Advancing the Democratic Mission of the American University" and "An International Panel on Higher Education, Civic Responsibility and Democracy." Thematic panels will focus on health and nutrition, democratic education and democratic community, culture and the arts, schools and schooling and poverty and race in society.

The conference is designed for higher-education faculty, staff and students; community leaders; policy makers; and K-12 principals, teachers and staff.
