PHILADELPHIA -- This year marks the 125th anniversary of the land purchase for Compton, John and Lydia Morris’ estate that would become the Morris Arboretum.  As part of the celebration of this event, the Give & Take Jugglers will give an interactive performance on Saturday, June 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. complete with walking the tightwire, juggling plates and playing fun songs of the era on the harmonica.  Children of all ages will delight in showing off their own juggling skills and singing along to “I’ve Been Working on the Rail Road!”

On your way to the big show in the Azalea Meadow, stop at the top of the hill at the Two Lines sculpture, which marks the spot where Compton stood.  A chalk outline of the mansion along with photos of Compton’s interior will be on display for visitors to “walk through” the estate and imagine life during the late 1800s. 

And while you’re here, partake in Family Fit & Fun Day, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., sponsored by 900AM-WURD.   This day of health and wellness will include a hula hoop contest and yoga demonstration, as well as health screenings. All planned activities are designed to engage visitors and inspire healthy living.

The Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania is located at 100 East Northwestern Avenue in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia.  The 92-acre horticulture display garden features a spectacular collection of mature trees in a beautiful and colorful landscape. The Arboretum includes numerous picturesque spots such as a formal rose garden, historic water features, a swan pond, and the only remaining freestanding fernery in North America. A new permanent nationally award winning exhibit, Out on a Limb – a Tree Adventure adds to Morris Arboretum’s allure by transporting visitors 50 feet up into the treetops on a canopy walk that requires no climbing.  The Morris Arboretum’s new Horticulture Center Complex has received Platinum Level LEED® Certification, the highest sustainability rating of the U.S. Green Building Council.
