Penn's Courtney Bliler Awarded 2014 Cultural Vistas Fellowship

University of Pennsylvania student Courtney Bliler, a rising junior from Horseheads, N.Y., is among 10 students from universities across the United States selected to receive 2014 Cultural Vistas Fellowships to intern abroad in Asia, Europe and South America this summer.

The fellowships provide university students who are traditionally underrepresented in international exchange programs the chance to advance their career goals, develop global competencies and experience life in another culture.

Now in its second year, the Cultural Vistas program will once again center on the theme of sustainability. The 2014 fellows will participate in eight-week summer internship and immersion experiences in Argentina, Germany and Singapore. Bliler will spend part of her summer in Germany.

“I hope to gain valuable exposure to German culture and language and to earn professional work and research experience on policies and issues broadly related to sustainability,” said Bliler, an international relations major.

The fellows include rising juniors and seniors representing nine institutions across the U.S. The program covers all program-related transportation, accommodations, support services, emergency medical coverage and internship placements.

Cultural Vistas is a nonprofit organization that serves more than 5,000 students, professionals and emerging leaders through career-focused international internships, educational study tours, language immersion and cultural exchange programs in the U.S. and around the world.
