An informal discussion, book signing, press conference and reception with the authors of “Against the Wall: Poor, Young, Black
and Male,” sponsored by Penn Institute for Urban Research at the University of Pennsylvania.

WHO:

Some of the book's authors will be at the book-signing, including Elijah Anderson and Waverly Duck of Yale University, Luke Anderson of Northwestern University, David Kairys of Temple University and William Julius Wilson of Harvard University.

DETAILS:

The writers note that many young black men residing in concentrated urban poverty are trapped in a cycle that includes active discrimination, unemployment, violence, crime, prison and early death. This mixture has given rise to wider stereotypes that limit the social capital of all young black males.

“Against the Wall” is part of Penn IUR’s City in the 21st Century book series published by Penn Press.
