World Food Day celebration sponsored by the Fox Leadership Program at the University of Pennsylvania, Penn's Civic House, the Project on Civic Engagement and the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger

WHEN: Friday, Oct. 5, registration: 12:30 p.m.; program: 1-4 p.m.

Community-based feeding-program volunteers, retailers, farmers, city and state officials, nutrition educators and others committed to building sustainable local food connections will gather on Penn's campus for the event to mark World Food Day.  The opening panel will discuss the "New York City Model: Implications for Philadelphia."  Two concurrent workshops will focus on increasing participation and promoting healthy foods in federal and state nutrition programs and forging fresh-food partnerships. Harris Sokoloff, director of the Penn Project on Civic Engagement and a professor in Penn's Graduate School of Education, will facilitate a final session to identify key policy suggestions for the new Philadelphia mayor.
