Penn Historian Thomas Childers to Discuss Latest Book

Penn History Professor Thomas Childers will read from and discuss his latest work, "In the Shadows of War: Three Lives United by the French Resistance," at the Penn Bookstore Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.

Drawn from extensive interviews, letters and archival documents in Britain, France, Germany and the United States, "In the Shadows of War" tells three interrelated stories of World War II. From Resistance activities in rural France, to Paris and captivity by the Gestapo, to the Buchenwald concentration camp, it is a story of ordinary people who did not make policy or formulate strategy but whose lives were profoundly altered by war.

Childers is the recipient of the Fulbright Scholarship, a German Marshall Fund Research Fellowship and numerous other awards and grants. He is the author of four previous books on National Socialism and World War II, including, "Wings of Morning."

All events at the Penn Bookstore are free and open to the public.
