Living Independently for Elders Celebrates 10 Years of Caring for Seniors in West Philadelphia With Block Party

PHILADELPHIA — The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing’s Living Independently for Elders program will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a neighborhood party on Saturday, May 16. from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 4508 Chestnut St.

Since 1998, LIFE has provided all-inclusive health care to more than 650 Southwest and West Philadelphia seniors.

Through the LIFE program, the chronic care needs of older adults are provided for in the center itself, allowing members who would otherwise need nursing-home care the option to remain in their home and receive all preventative, primary, acute and long-term health services at the LIFE center.

“It is fitting that we have a neighborhood party, because we are celebrating 10 years of helping our elderly neighbors to remain in their homes and community,” Wayne Pendleton, LIFE CEO, said.

The public block party will include live music, moon bounces, yoga lessons, art workshops for children, face painting, special performances and food, as well as health and professional-development programs that range from job-preparation workshops to health screenings performed by Penn Nursing students.
