Expert Comment on Harriet Miers' Withdrawal from Consideration for the Supreme Court

Theodore Ruger, professor of law at the University of Pennsylvania, researches, teaches and writes about the history of the Supreme Court, judicial appointments and constitutional history.  He's currently researching and writing about the powers of the chief justice.

"The objections to Miers from the right and left centered on her lack of qualification, so the White House may try again with a well-qualified, on-the-record conservative such as Edith Jones or Michael Luttig.  This will at least mollify the party's right wing even if that nominee is not ultimately confirmed."
